Steps for audition success
Step 1: Print out the audition materials.
Step 2: Find a professional recording of the excerpt and listen, listen, listen........ listen so much that you know EXACTLY what it's supposed to sound like.
Step 3: Start practicing the excerpt, and strive to sound like the professional that you have listened to. You'll know what the correct notes and rhythms sound like, so you'll learn it correctly right off the bat.
Step 4: Play the scales super slow and accurately, with a metronome and proper articulation. Once you can play it slow (and perfect), then slowly increase the metronome until you are able to achieve accuracy at the marked tempo.
Step 5: Learn the scales and excerpts as good as you can, then ask Mr. Steele to listen and provide feedback.
