THS Ensembles

Symphonic Band

This is an introduction to high school band, intended for 9th graders.  The band will perform numerous times over the year including football games and basketball games, school concerts, festivals, and an annual tour, all of which participation is mandatory. Symphonic Band and Wind Ensemble combine for performances. Three years of middle school band experience is highly recommended.

Wind Ensemble
This class is intended for students who have already been in the Symphonic Band, intended for sophomores, juniors and seniors. This is a higher-level band which goes into more advanced music theory as well as more advanced music. This group combines with Wind Ensemble to perform at several music festivals, school concerts, annual tour, and at basketball games (pep band).

​Concert dresses and tuxedos are provided by TEMPO.

 Jazz Band and Jazz Ensemble

THS has two jazz groups that meet before school during zero period.  Advanced jazz techniques will be covered in this course, including improvisation. Participation in Symphonic Band or Wind Ensemble is required. Jazz Band performs in 3-4 festivals, multiple concerts, and community performances. Jazz Ensemble meets 3x per week.

Membership in Jazz Band is contingent upon live auditions held at the end of the previous school year. No audition is required for Jazz Ensemble membership. Concert attire is black.

Jazz Combo

This is an extracurricular, small group, jazz combo.  It meets once or twice a week after school and is mostly student run.  An emphasis will be on improvisation and student composition.  They will perform at 3-4 festivals, multiple concerts, and community performances.  Membership is based on live auditions held at the beginning of each school year.  This is not a graded course. Concert attire is black.

Marching band performs at our home football games, marches in the fall Homecoming Parade, and starting in 2022 - in the Truckee 4th of July Parade. We bring spirit and great music to help our team win and get the crowd pumped up! Halftime shows and marching drill will be taught. There will be marching band practices at the end of the summer. Dates and times will be decided by the director. If you are in Symphonic Band or Wind Ensemble, this is a requirement. Uniforms are provided by TEMPO.
